The Law is Fulfilled in Love
June 9, 2026
“Galatians 5:13-14 13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.””
Reflection
31st March 2026 How can I walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh? God’s Word reminded me today that freedom in Christ meant walking in the Spirit and the fruit of this is love, expressed as serving others. It is easy to be led astray, however, by the vagaries of the world I live in. As with the Corinthians, they had quickly forgotten the apostle Paul’s teachings and become proud, disunited, willing to turn a blind eye to and becoming practitioners of sexual immorality and narcissism. They preferred to follow, instead, ‘super prophets’ or false teachers who preached the prosperity gospel, making them despise the poor and disadvantaged.
Application
Unless I yield wholly to Christ and let the Holy Spirit take control of my heart, I will not be able to love as Christ loved. I will always be driven, consciously or subconsciously, by self-interest. That is human nature and the way of the world. But when I bear the fruit of the Spirit, I will be able to love unconditionally and reflect the love of Christ in all I say and do. That is when my spiritual gifts will be a blessing to others, and not simply a sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
Dear Lord Jesus, forgive me, for I am a sinner. I struggle with my flesh daily and often look at my self-interests before others. Yet, You want me to surrender everything and lay them at Your feet. You want me to walk in the Spirit and love my neighbours as myself. This means forgiving those who may have wronged me. It means turning the other cheek when I am struck. In my trials, I often get bitter and frustrated, wanting my pound of flesh from those who have attacked me. But You want me to let go. Let go of my bitterness and anger. I can only do this with the strength of the Holy Spirit. When I can love in spite of what has happened to me, I shall be truly free indeed. Free me, O Lord! Thank You for the victory that I have over sin and death. Thank You for giving me life, both abundant and eternal. In Your name, Lord Jesus, I pray. Amen.
