To Him Who Overcomes I Will Grant to Sit With Me on My Throne
May 26, 2026
“Revelation 3:18-21 18 I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. 21 To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.”
Reflection
17th October 2024, Thursday God loves us and it is this truth that helps me persevere through my trials. I also know that He is sovereign and in all things, He works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. Rev 3:18-19 is a reminder that our Lord rebukes and chastens those whom He loves. When we are chastened, we are counselled to cherish the fire that refines us and be clothed with His righteousness. As our Lord Jesus opens our eyes and reveals Himself to us through our trials, He will also give us the divine power to overcome all things, that we may sit with Him on His throne! Why am I being chastened and rebuked? Because I have been lukewarm towards Jesus, foolishly thinking that I have need of nothing. How do I ‘buy’ the gold refined in the fire, the garments of righteousness and the eye salve that allows me to see what the Lord is doing in my life? It is with my love for Christ, my trust in and obedience to Him that will be used to purchase these riches - the thirst-quenching waters, the wine and milk that are offered without money and without price (Isaiah 55:1)!
Application
1. Let me develop a faith that is tested and genuine rather than comfortable and superficial: Pray even when I do not feel like it. I obey God in difficult situations. I accept trials as refinement. 2. Be repentant and seek holiness rather than hide sin or justify it. I examine my motives honestly and confess sin. I avoid double living — outward Christianity with inward compromise. I walk in integrity. 3. Seek spiritual discernment. Let me read Scripture before forming opinions about the world. I test teachings, ideologies, and ambitions against God’s Word. I ask God for wisdom before major decisions. Spiritual blindness often appears as: Pride Self-sufficiency Constant distraction Lack of conviction over sin
Dear Lord Jesus, You are my Wonderful Counsellor and You love me. Forgive me for being lukewarm towards You and not giving every area of my life to You. Yet, You are gracious, forgiving and loving and have given me the Holy Spirit, who will help me overcome this world, so that I may be seated with You as a co-heir of Your kingdom. Teach me to set my mind on the things of God, not on the things of man. I ask this in Your precious name, Amen.
