Love Your Enemies
May 24, 2026
“Matthew 5:43-45a, 48 43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; 48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.”
Reflection
2nd August 2024 I am grateful that God has given me locum jobs at various clinics over the past one and a half months. I would not have imagined in May this year that I would settle in so quickly as a locum, seeing patients at different clinics, using different clinic management systems. The Holy Spirit is telling me to move on from what has been happening to me, by learning to forgive and to love those who have hurt me. I must not be resentful towards IPP's liquidators, their lawyers or the CAD, the Prosecutors and others whom I feel have wronged me. Instead, the Spirit wants me to pray for them, their salvation and even for them to know the Lord Jesus Christ! Matthew 6:4 For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. Matthew 5:43-45a, 48 43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; 48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
Application
How did Jesus, who had no sin, take all our sins upon Himself, dying as a sacrifice for us, so that we may live? How could He bear the anguish of separation from God when He atoned for our sins on the cross? He said on the cross, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do." I am a sinner and Jesus died for me. If He can forgive me, how can I not forgive as He did? Who am I to bear grudges when He kept no record of my wrongs? It does not matter what happens to me on earth, for one day, I shall be in paradise with my Lord Jesus Christ, the author and perfecter of my faith.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your forgiveness of my sins. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for loving me in spite of my sinful nature and selfishness. Your selfless act of sacrifice on the cross puts me to shame. I want to be perfect like You. I know that my trials are a way to sanctify me and make me holy like You. I ask to be transformed by Your love in order to do Your good work on earth, bringing fallen people to You. Through me, they shall come to know You and be saved. I pray for LVM, the lawyer for IPP, that he shall walk closely with You and know Your voice. I know that Your Spirit is unity and will speak the same way to me as to him. I therefore ask that VM will be kind towards me as I learn to be kind towards him. I am still struggling with forgiveness for the liquidator, TWC, but I know that You are working in me to fix that. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for Your wisdom, allowing me to see Your providence and Your hand at work in my life. Because of this, I have the strength to live each day with joy and peace. Thank You! I give all honour and glory to You, Lord Jesus. Amen.
