Meditation on James 1:2-6
May 19, 2026
“James 1:2-6 2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.”
Reflection
2nd June 2024 I’ve often quoted each of these verses on its own, but today, they have come together to give me the peace I was seeking. My trials have been ordained by God to test my faith in Him. These trials will last for a season, so that I learn patience in waiting for His saving work. In patience, I shall be made perfect and complete, lacking nothing, because God will show Himself to be sufficient for me. He is all I need. Yes, there will be moments of doubt and these are times when I am invited by Jesus to enter His rest, seeking His wisdom. The Holy Spirit, deposited in my heart, is revealing to me His purposes for my trials – not to harm me, but to prosper me and give me hope and a future. This hope does not disappoint and will remove all doubt that Jesus loves me. He is Jehovah Jireh, my Provider. He is my peace that has broken down every wall of hurt, regret and sadness. That is why I rejoice always. May my gentleness be known to all men. Psalm 30:5 For His anger is but for a moment, His favour is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning. Philippians 4:19 19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Matthew 11:28 28 Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Jeremiah 29:11 11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Genesis 22:14 14 And Abraham called the name of the place, The-LORD-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the LORD it shall be provided.” Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Ephesians 2:14 14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation… Philippians 4:4-5 4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
Application
Meditate on His Word day and night.
Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for the privilege of having my faith tested. May it produce patience and joy in me. May this fruit of the Spirit render me useful for every good work that You assign me, because when I am weak, then I am strong. I delight in You for You are holy and worthy of praise. Amen.
