The Promises of God Are 'Yes' In Christ
May 19, 2026
“2 Cor 1:20-22 For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ. And so through him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by us to the glory of God. Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.”
Reflection
2nd May 2024 I have been out of work for a month now and the last couple of weeks have been challenging for me, as I grapple with the niggling doubt and fear regarding finances and being useful! The silver lining has come in the form of time available to catch up with my reading (Primary Care Medicine), attending online lectures and accumulating CME points to reinstate my physician practising licence. Everyday now is a reminder to believe in James 4:15 – if the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that. I thank God for every breath that I take and being able to walk in His will. I have also been blessed by the Psalm 23 prayer group that meets once a week. We have met 4 times now and each meeting has been a blessing for me. God has used my brothers-in-Christ to comfort me through their sharing and prayer. LW (wife) has also joined me in the last two meetings, which has made me glad, as she has been a pillar of strength and support for me, and now, for the prayer group also. TC's wife, has also been faithful in her prayers and I know that CH’s wife will also be encouraged to return to the Lord.
Application
What then has been the purpose of our trials? That we walk by faith, fixing our eyes on our Lord Jesus Christ and reflect His glory, that all who see us may gain the knowledge of Christ’s love for us as we live out the gospel in our lives. Our focus must not be on our trials or the perceived injustice. It should not be on clearing our names or being restored. These will come naturally as a by-product of Christ’s love for us. Our focus is simply to love the Lord as we live.
Dear Lord, I claim Your promise in 1 Cor 10:13, “God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” Thank you for Your promises, which are many - of peace, joy, rest and renewal of my strength. Most of all, thank You for the Lord Jesus Christ, through whom I have eternal life. May I always be ready to give a reason for the hope that I have. I ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
