Jesus, My Life Insurance; Jesus, My Life Itself!

“Colossians 3:4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.”
Reflection
22nd October 2026, Thursday When confronted with death, what emotions am I filled with? Do my emotions overwhelm me or give me hope for the future? The statement, “Jesus is my life insurance,” came to my mind this week, on the occasion of the sudden demise of my home helper (see Faith Story filed on 23rd Oct 2026). It epitomises the eternal hope that I have in Jesus Christ, one that survives my finite life on earth. For now I have a perishable body, but when Christ returns, I shall be given an imperishable, incorruptible body, with which I worship and serve Him forever and ever. Yet, Jesus is more than my life insurance. He is my life itself! Colossians 3:4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
Application
Scripture has given us three great promises: 1. Jesus has prepared a place for us in His Father’s house. John 14:1–3 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” Jesus has told us why do not need to worry. He has prepared a place for us and He promises to receive us to Himself. 2. Jesus assures us that death is not the end. John 11:25–26 “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” John 5:24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.” Hebrews 2:14–15 14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 3. Jesus has given us the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of our inheritance. John 10:27–29 “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.” Our ultimate security rests not in our own strength, but in the faithfulness and power of Jesus Christ and our Abba Father. Ephesians 1:13–14 13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. 2 Corinthians 1:21–22 21 Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, 22 who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. The Holy Spirit, deposited in us, is our divine seal of guarantee! And the payout is unimaginable – eternal life with Christ, to the praise of His glory!
Abba Father, thank You for sealing me with the Holy Spirit of promise, guaranteeing me a room in Your House, with Jesus Christ as my Saviour. Whilst I live in this world, it is but for a moment in time. I am an alien in this world, for I am not of this world. I belong to You and Your kingdom. When once I was afraid of death, I now see it as the gateway to the riches I have in heaven. I am no longer subject to the bondage of fear. No, Jesus Christ is my resurrection and my life. To live is Christ and to die is gain. Thank You for blessing me on earth and in heaven. Use me to proclaim Your mercies and Your grace to my parents and to those who do not know You. Let me be a channel of Your love, that through my words and actions, they may see You. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for being my life, my All in All. Amen.
