Faith Is the Substance of Things Hoped For
May 27, 2026
“Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Reflection
2nd December 2024 It has taken me years, but the Holy Spirit has finally revealed this rhema to me. My hope is the foundation for my faith. And the fulfilment of my hope will surely come to pass, because it is rooted in the promises of God, who is faithful. If my foundation is firm, then my faith must be followed by action, because faith without action is dead. In practical terms, I shall proceed to book my flight to Glasgow to attend JYX's graduation in July 2025, without fearing the trials that lay ahead of me. After all, has not God promised me the desires of my heart? God had already fulfilled part of His promise when I was able to attend JYM's graduation in July this year. I had earlier expressed my fear of missing Joelle’s graduation in January 2024, but this fear turned out to be unfounded. Why should I fear missing JYX's graduation now? Will I not be repeating the same mistake of not living in faith? Wow! I must press on.
Application
I am called to exercise my faith daily in so many areas of my life: my finances, relationships, work, trials and fears, etc. In all these areas, I can only move in confidence when my hope rests in Christ and I seek His counsel before I act. I know I will be tempted to give up or to take shortcuts when things become painfully difficult, but I have the weapons of prayer and His Word to lean on. Philippians 3:14-16 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. Only let us hold true to what we have attained.
Dear Lord, thank You for giving me Your Rhema. Thank You for reminding me that faith without action is dead and You will never forsake me or break Your promises. I claim Your promise that You will grant me the desires of my heart, if I seek You first. Indeed, it is written, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” Oh Lord, God, You have made the heavens and the earth. Nothing is impossible for You. Show me great and mighty things I do not yet know! I want to trust and obey. I want to follow You all the days of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
