Search Me, O God, And Know My Heart
May 12, 2026
“Romans 3:10-18 10 As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one; 11 There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. 12 They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one.” 13 “Their throat is an open tomb; With their tongues they have practiced deceit”; “The poison of asps is under their lips”; 14 “Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.” 15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood; 16 Destruction and misery are in their ways; 17 And the way of peace they have not known.” 18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.””
Reflection
24th November 2023 When Paul said, “…circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter (Law),” what did he mean? (Rom 2:29) Paul wanted to emphasise the importance of seeking God and fearing Him. To do so, I have to turn away from things that are ‘unprofitable’. The attitude of my heart matters most – to love Christ with all my heart, my mind and soul. Am I seeking to understand the heart of God when I speak and act? God constantly searches my heart, where the Holy Spirit resides. Am I led by His Spirit (who also intercedes for me) or am I suppressing Him? Circumcision (my being set apart for God, to be holy) is of the heart, by the Spirit.
Application
Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting. What is God's ultimate goal (His heart)? It's not to destroy Satan, which He can do in a blink of an eye, but to restore me, that I may be with Him, as co-heirs with Christ, ruling the heavenly realms. When I seek God’s heart, I am pursuing holiness and His glory. The opposite is to sin and fall short of the glory of God.
Search me, O God, and know my heart. Convict me of my sin of pride, which makes me anxious, because I know, deep down, that I do not have the solutions to my problems. Help me humble myself in order to cast aside my anxieties and lean only on You. You are the Way, the Truth and the Life. I seek only You and to know Your heart. Everything else is unprofitable. Thank You for calling and choosing me. Thank You for making me Your servant. In Jesus' name, Amen.
