I Will Never Leave You Nor Forsake You
May 16, 2026
“Hebrews 13:5-6 5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 6 So we may boldly say: “The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?””
Reflection
6th February 2024 God gave me this passage from Hebrews 13:5-6 for my meditation this morning. It was apt, as the court released the judge’s remarks to the mainstream media around noon today and I was soon receiving messages from my friends and acquaintances, some simply curious to find out if the news was true, but most to encourage me. God loves and comforts me as I call to Him in my despair, but He has also mobilised the power of community and friendship to lift my spirit.
Application
In reading the myriad messages, I personally found some that resonated with me and some that did not. All messages were appreciated, however, because I knew that every person who had sent a message had gone out of the way to do so. Through the process of receiving comfort and support, I learnt how to comfort and support others. I learnt the importance of praying with the power of God's Word and I share such a prayer below, which I had received from a brother-in-Christ, Erman.
Prayer by Erman, as sent to me via Whatsapp: Father in heaven, In the midst of our own circumstances and in our sufferings, we still want to remember to focus on you, to thank you and to be reminded that our eternity is not in this fallen world but in the heaven you have created for us. Father, in your words, we quote that *we also glorify in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy spirit, who has been given to us.* (Romans 5:3-5) This is the hope that no one can take away from us. We pray to continue to press upon you persistently to persevere, for in you, then we shall find hope. For Lord, we know your holy spirit is always in our presence, comforting us, and drawing us closer to you for in your scripture you said *If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If we belonged to the world, it would love us as its own.* (John 15:18) Father help us to lean on you as you have promised us in your scripture that if *we come to you, all weary and burdened, you will give us rest.* (Matthew 11:28) Father, we pray for brother Jin Hian, that we carry him through this ordeal and seek peace in you, for the only comfort he shall receive is not from man but from you alone. We pray for his family who will always be there for each other through tough times like these with understanding, love, joy and patience. *May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favour and give you his peace.* (Numbers 6:24-26) We commit these in Jesus's name, Amen.
