It Is The Lord Christ You Are Serving
July 15, 2026
“Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
Reflection
15th July 2026, Wednesday “I run reputation audits for Singapore principals. When I searched your name, the top results are still the Feb-2024 liability headlines — the June-2025 appeal win that overturned them barely surfaces. That's fixable, and it's the kind of correction that compounds over a few months. I've put together a short audit of where your name sits today and what a clean-up path looks like — mind if I send it over?” I’ve received at least 3 such messages via LinkedIn over the past year, most recently, 2 weeks ago. I’ve ignored them all. My human condition is tempted to do something about my reputation. After all, will it not affect my standing in society or my chances of securing a job or future board seat? But each time, I asked myself: What does God see in me? Do I belong to Him? Am I loved by Him? Does He matter more to me or am I more concerned about what others think of me? I’ve kept Colossians 3:23 in my heart since I started working more than 30 years ago. I’ve always kept in mind that I am but a steward for Christ. I am a steward of His blessings; of the organisations I served and the people who worked in them. It does not mean that I have never made a wrong decision, but certainly, not a decision that put my interests above those of the organisations and the people that I had the God-given privilege to steward. I have been attacked before – most organisations and work places are political in nature. I was attacked when the organisation I worked for undertook a retrenchment exercise. They called it a RIF (‘reduction in force’). But God was gracious and faithful to His promises. I believe He used me to take care of the staff who were affected by the exercise. During that period, a small group of Christian brothers and sisters came together with me to pray for the organisation and God heard us. I am facing attacks again today, this time, directly on my reputation and future. That is how the devil works. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. I must resist him, firm in my faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by my brothers throughout the world (1 Peter 5:9).
Application
If I become anxious about how the world thinks of me, my life will revolve around how to gain the praise of men, rather than God. I will be consumed by monitoring how many likes I have on my social media posts and what netizens are writing about me. It will be a never-ending spiral because I will become more and more anxious, increasingly depressed by the negativity that the devil wants me to feel. Did Jesus care what people said or thought of Him? Jesus said: John 5:41, 44 “I do not accept glory from human beings.” “How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?” 1 Peter 5:6-7 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
Dearest Lord Jesus, watch over me and shepherd me when I am attacked by fears and doubts and what people say of me. Hold my hand and give me Your peace. My identity is in You and my righteousness comes from You. I humble myself under the mighty hand of God and submit myself to His will. Whatever happens, You are with me. Let me glorify You with my praise! Lord Jesus, You alone are worthy of all praise! For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
