Because You Love Me, I Will Rescue You
May 15, 2026
“Psalms 91:14-16 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honour him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” Psalms 62:5-8 ”Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from Him. Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honour depend on God; He is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge.“ ”
Reflection
24th January 2024 Bad news. My lawyer for the IPP civil suit against me called me to say that the judge had found me liable for the full sum of USD146M. I’m looking at bankruptcy, since there is no way I can repay the amount. In a way, I had expected this – like Job’s experience, the devil will test me with actual loss to see how I respond. It will not be the end. I know the DPP in the NSG case will also push as hard as he can for me to go to jail. I can only keep praying for God’s sustenance and for my family to adapt to a more frugal life. Do I worry? I’d be lying if I said no. I will have to give up my creature comforts, struggle with paying the bills and will not be able to travel freely (so it will affect my job chances) and possibly miss my daughter's graduation. God, what is Your plan? I trust You and I know You will only show me one step at a time. Lord, give me the wisdom to discern Your will, so that I may present myself as Your servant, honourable in my behaviour. I do not want to grovel for human favour. Instead, I rely solely on Your succour and mercy.
Application
What do we consider as existential issues in our lives? God will test us in ways which will stretch us, but God is faithful and will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that we may be able to bear it. (1 Corinthians 10:13) If we persevere in trust, we will learn that what we consider as existential and insurmountable are, in fact, merely obstacles to total dependency on God, our Creator. I am grateful to be tested and thankful to God for opening my eyes to see Him as the only thing that truly matters to my existence.
Dear Lord, I know You have prepared me for this day. Although I had often asked for this cup to be taken from me, You have spoken through Your Spirit that I must lean not on my own understanding, but in all my ways, acknowledge You and You shall make my paths straight. You, O Lord, who have guided me and walked with me all my life, will not desert me in my time of need and despair. I know that even the present circumstances are blessed by You and You shall restore more than double what I have lost. Thank You, O Lord, for the Holy Spirit deposited in me. Your Spirit is life and power. I can do all things through You who strengthens me. Not my will, but Yours be done. Amen!
