I Am A Living Stone

“1 Peter 2:4-5 Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”
Reflection
12th August 2026, Wednesday I sometimes wonder if my life has been ‘irreparably derailed’ by the events of the past 8 years. Mistakes that cannot be undone; a life of promise reduced to rubble. Yet, God’s promise, in 1 Peter 2:4-5, was given to me today, as I made my way to the courtroom. Firstly, I was reminded that I was predestined to be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. This means I was chosen to be like Christ even before I was born! Romans 8:29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Hence, like Christ, the cornerstone (Acts 4:11 and Ephesians 2:20), I am also a living stone, being built up to be a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19), to praise God and to pray unceasingly with thanksgiving always, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer (Hebrews 13:15). These are the spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God. I am a precious living stone, not a piece of lifeless rubble. God speaks life into my dead bones. He speaks His promises over my despair and His promises are 'Yes' in Christ.
Application
Hebrews 13:15 Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. In my moments of doubt, despair or helplessness, I am called to praise God and to give Him thanks! My praise becomes a 'sacrifice' when I praise Him even though my circumstance are dire and I do not feel like praising God. My thanksgiving becomes a sacrifice when it comes at the expense of my pride and self-centredness. When I make these spiritual sacrifices to God, I learn to surrender to Him and to trust Him in all things. When I submit to the will of God, He is well-pleased.
Thank You, Abba Father, for writing my name in Your Book of Life. Thank You, Lord Jesus Christ, for loving and redeeming me and giving me the Holy Spirit to counsel me, to guide me and to help me pray in alignment with the heart and will of God. Forgive me for the times I fail to run to You in my despair, for my moments of doubt as to Your presence in my life. These are the times when I have taken my eyes off You, O Lord, forgetting that You are Lord over all things and all situations. Thank You for reminding me that I am created with the purpose of praising You and to declare the gospel of Your redeeming love to the world. I surrender my life to You. You are the potter and I am the clay. Make me and mould me to be more and more like You each day. I pray this in the strong name of Jesus, Amen.
