The Lord Has His Way In the Whirlwind and the Storm
May 9, 2026
“Romans 1:18-19 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. Nahum 1:2-3: 2God is jealous, and the Lord avenges; The Lord avenges and is furious. The Lord will take vengeance on His adversaries, And He reserves wrath for His enemies; 3The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, And will not at all acquit the wicked. The Lord has His way In the whirlwind and in the storm, And the clouds are the dust of His feet.”
Reflection
3rd November 2023 We all deserve the loving discipline of God, for we are sinners and He yearns to draw us back to Him whenever we drift away. However, this is different from receiving the wrath of God, which is reserved for those who reject God and His love, even though they know that He exists, for He can be clearly seen in the world around us and the daily miracles revealed in His creations. Indeed, I must not fall prey to rejecting His love in the midst of my trials. It is so tempting to complain and to take things into our own hands, but doing so will make us ‘adversaries of God’. Quoting Nahum 1:2-3, my wife reminded me that the Lord has His way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet! If He is for us, who can be against us? Do not fear the storms of life, for our Almighty God is bigger.
Application
Stop complaining and see God's mercy and grace in the storms. Through the storm, God revealed Jonah's sin of disobedience to him and also declared to the sailors that He was the one true God; through the storm, the disciples learnt to trust in Jesus; and through the storm, Paul was shipwrecked, ending up exactly where God wanted him to be. God uses storms to reveal His majesty and will to us and we are better witnesses for Christ because of them.
Thank you, Lord, for Your forgiveness. Thank you for being patient with me. As I face the storms, I place my trust in Your love, in Your providence and Your great power. Turn Your face toward me and give me peace. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
