Look For the Evidence!
June 9, 2026
“2 Corinthians 4:16-18 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Reflection
24th February 2026 These verses came together for me today, in a way that I had not seen before. I was reminding myself to fix my eyes on Jesus as I went through these days of trial and toil. My heart told me to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, for the eternal hope that I had in Christ was weightier than the temporary afflictions in my life. This eternal hope might not be visible in the midst of the Prosecution’s accusations and their demand for ‘justice’, but my faith lay in the evidence of things unseen. Yes, there was evidence of my eternal hope in Christ and His promises! What evidence was there then? I had His Word, which is truth. I have had encounters with God throughout my life and how He had led me to where I currently was. God had sent me numerous brothers and sisters-in-Christ during these past years to encourage me. I had the evidence of God in action when He completely overturned the judge’s guilty verdict in my first trial and exonerated me. Today, therefore, as I stared into the unknown future, I was at peace, knowing that my immediate earthly future may be unknown, but my final eternal place in God’s kingdom was assured. And that was enough.
Application
Trust God's Word, for He is faithful and all His promises are 'Yes' in Christ. Persevere in trials and let them produce patience and a character that glorifies God.
Dear Lord, I pray that You will dwell in our hearts and that the Holy Spirit will strengthen our faith as we go through the storms of life. These storms will surely come, for they are the means by which You reveal Your love, grace and mercy to us. May we experience You deeply when we are buffeted by the winds, and drawing on Your strength, may we know how much You love us. As we empty ourselves of our worldly distractions and temptations, may we then be filled with all the fullness of God. Thank You, Lord Jesus Christ, for making us holy. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for sanctifying us as we work out our salvation on this side of heaven. Thank You, Almighty God, for Your patience with us. I thank You for giving us the eternal hope and glory that we do not deserve, but having been made perfect in Your image, we now get to enjoy. All this we pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
