We Glory in Tribulations
May 13, 2026
“Romans 5:3-5: …we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”
Reflection
3rd January 2024 I was informed by my lawyers last evening that the DPP wanted to press for a custodial sentence for me, as one of the alleged conspirators to rig the share price of NSG. Obviously, I was despondent on reading my lawyers’ email, but who was I to ask God why He was putting me through this ordeal? Even King Nebuchadnezzar knew that God was sovereign, when he said, in Daniel 4:35, “All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; He does according to His will in the army of heaven And among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain His hand Or say to Him, “What have You done?” Instead, I should declare with confidence, as in Romans 5:3-5: …we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Application
God is glorified when we persevere in our trials, leaning solely on the hope of His deliverance. When we seek Him during our struggles, trusting and obeying Him despite the overwhelming circumstances before us, we (and everyone around us) will marvel at the immeasurable love, wisdom and power of God to do more than we can possibly ask or imagine! We should not be overwhelmed by fears over the outcome of our trials, as God's plans are higher than our plans. This we see in the life of Joseph and others in the bible. Instead, we humble ourselves and ask God for His forgiveness. We ask for clean hands and a pure heart, that we may ascend the holy hill of the Lord and be of service to Him wherever He sends us.
O Lord, may Your Word remain in me as I remain in You, so that I can draw on Your strength to bear this trial. Your yoke is easy and Your burden is light. Help me, O Lord, experience the joy of knowing You as You lead me in the way everlasting. Amen.
