Deep Calls Unto Deep: The LORD Loves Me

June 7, 2026

Scripture

Psalm 42:1-3, 5, 7-8, 11 1 As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? 3 My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say to me, “Where is your God?” 5 Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance. 7 Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls; All Your waves and billows have gone over me. 8 The LORD will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, And in the night His song shall be with me— A prayer to the God of my life. 11 Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.

Reflection

10th December 2025 The Lord revealed to me today that my posture in worship when I am in despair was important to Him, as it reflected the position of my heart. Do I worship Him then in humble submission to His will or as one ‘going through the motions’ and only focused on the words said or sung, i.e. using my mind? As I praise Him and declare my love for Him, am I doing so as one who truly loves Him, believes in Him and is willing to obey Him, even when it may not ‘make sense’? These are postures of my heart, which I must maintain when things are falling apart around me and my trials continue without any sign of abating. If I were to worship Him only with my mind, then my mind will start to question when my prayers are not answered, which will then lead to me taking matters into my own hands. When I meet God face to face and heart to heart, He tells me He loves me and He rejoices over me with singing. So, despair no longer! Do not be anxious or flustered. Instead, praise the Lord, my Help and my God! Amen, amen, amen.

Application

When I am in a posture of worshiping God, my focus is on Him, instead of myself. When I focus on Him, I am called to move from a position of despairing paralysis to one of humble service. When I serve God, I do so in the confidence that His plans cannot be thwarted, so He will move the mountains and all the trees of the fields will clap their hands! Let my heart reflect God's heart and character. Practically, there are areas I can apply a Godly heart towards: 1. In my RELATIONSHIPS, I am built for community and love; 2. The Holy Spirit helps me DISCERN right from wrong, and to DESIRE God more than the things of this world; 3. I have the divine ability to SOLVE problems, CREATE things, and BUILD communities that reflect God's glory, mirroring God's role as the Creator; and 4. I must be a responsible STEWARD of what God has blessed me with - family, resources, people and this earth.

Prayer

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for loving me. Let me not be downcast, but instead, help me look up and gaze upon You beauty. Transform my heart and mind, that I desire You more than earthly comforts. Continue to direct my steps, so that I may be fruitful in all that I do, because I love You and it is You, whom I am serve. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
